Barney
Hi there everybody! My name is Barney. I arrived at Fieldstone Farm in June and just recently was accepted into the driving program in September 2010. I grew up on an Amish farm, so I am very familiar with driving. I have not had a lot of experience in the riding arena. The occasional trail walk, but no formal riding training. However, I am learning the 'riding thing' pretty quickly. Even though I was born in 1990, it is never to late in life to learn new things. I love it here. I have lots of friends. I stand perfectly still for grooming. However, with all the hard work prior to Fieldstone Farm I have developed arthritis in my legs. So, I may be a little stiff when you try to pick out my hooves. I am not trying to be difficult; I am just a little stiff. Even thought I look like a big sturdy guy, I have sensitive hooves. I am wearing casts on my front hooves, so you don't need to pick those. The casts help me from getting sore. My hooves were not in the best shape when my donor found me. Ann Houin saved me from the slaughter and I am forever thankful. I sure got lucky! I still have lots of good years left, just can't work in the fields plowing like those youngsters can. This is a great next career. I love to be the center of attention. I am a very laid back and easy going guy. You can't miss me when you walk down the aisles; I will be the 16.3 hand, bay Percheron Belgian guy looking at you with the big brown eyes. I am as sweet and gentle as a puppy dog. Please remember like a lot of the other draft horses in the barn, I respond well to verbal cues. I am anxious to work in the driving program. Soon after, I will be helping/working in the riding program. I am quiet to ride, just need a lot of help staying on the rail. All the activities in the ring and the trail are lots of fun. I am a favorite already - I know I will meet you soon!
