Duke
Hi there! My name is Duke. I was donated by Carol Winland in July of 2009 and I am so excited to have a new job. I was previously trail ridden by my donor, so I am a little rusty on my ring work. It has been so long since I did any of that, but I am picking up on it all quickly- it is all coming back to me. I am a 14 hand, chestnut Haflinger gelding, born in 1997. Yes, I am a little round, but with some exercise and a strict diet, I am sure to get my figure back. I am a pretty easy going guy; you could call me laid back. I love all the activities in the ring and really enjoy trail riding. I am still working on a few things in the sensory course though.
I haven't been on the squad stepper yet and the big gravel box is a little intimidating. A few more times practicing and I will be a "pro". Oh, one thing when we are walking on trail- I really like being first. You will be surprised how fast my little legs can move on trail. I am good in the woods trail too, I don't mind being first in there either. I can follow another horse, but please don't make me walk behind someone really slow. I like to walk with a purpose, I need to shed those excess pounds!
I thrive on attention and could stand there all day to be groomed. I know my stocky build may be a little intimidating, but I promise I am a gentleman in the crossties. Did I mention that I am not really tall, so I should be great for ground lessons- much easier to groom me than Kazaar.
One thing to keep in mind when working with me is that I am still learning the ropes around here. I also can get distracted when you are leading me in a lesson so I need my leader to pay attention for the both of us. I do not do anything bad, I am a pony and from time to time I like to think about other things. Being that I am built like a 'little bulldog', I may need a little stronger of a leader to give me the correct cues. I am anxious to get to work and do enjoy it. See you soon!
