Fieldstone Farm's Ridership Program in 2010: A snapshot
Expenses
- Total cost of Ridership Program in 2010: $782,196
--Amount requested by families unable to pay the lesson fees: $104,334
--Ridership subsidy (57% of each lesson is subsidized): $677,862
Income
- Total restricted Ridership dollars requested from foundations, groups and individuals: $276,800
- Lesson fees paid by clients: $319,873
- Balance of Ridership Program costs are covered by general operating support
Fieldstone Farm relies on donations from individuals, foundations and corporations to support the program. Families, schools and other sending institutions may apply for "Riderships", the means by which Fieldstone Farm provides financial assistance to clients and families unable to pay the full lesson fee. Many families are unable to pay even the subsidized fee. Riderships are instrumental in making equine-enriched opportunities for people with disabilities available to everyone. At Fieldstone Farm, we know that families with children or adults with disabilities incur additional expenses for equipment, special diets, therapies, tutoring and a variety of other costs not covered by insurance. As a non-traditional therapy, health insurance does not typically pay for any of the fees associated with equine-related therapeutic intervention, however some of our students have received reimbursements for our Hippotherapy (physical therapy on the horse) Program. Our belief in the therapeutic value of our programs drives us to secure funding to ensure that no client misses out on this opportunity because of funding limitations. It is our policy that no client is turned away due to inability to pay his or her lesson fees, but we can only maintain this approach is with the support of the community. Every rider, family or sending institution makes some kind of contribution toward their fees, but those needing additional Ridership assistance are sincerely grateful for the valuable experiences it allows.
Financial Assistance requested in 2010:
Average Ridership Amount Requested: $800/private student/yr. $3,162/group/yr.***
**School groups requested $15,000 more in Ridership assistance in 2010 than in 2009.
