Bring the classroom to the farm

For many students, experiencing educational concepts outside the classroom can bring them to life and build a greater understanding. Our programs for school groups are designed to boost comprehension of math, language arts and science concepts as well as build confidence and motivation to learn. Our instructors work with teachers to create horse-themed activities tailored to support IEPs and classroom goals.

Our instructors are trained to work with children and adolescents with a variety of special needs. When students are on the farm working with our horses, you can just see their self-esteem build as they gain independence and rise to take on new challenges. The benefits of riding and working with horses are numerous including:

  • Motivation
  • Emotional regulation
  • Academic carryover to the classroom
  • Independence
  • Physical strength & balance
  • Gross & fine motor skills
  • Spatial awareness
  • Memory & application

We offer both one-time field trips and multi-week sessions that are tailored to educational objectives. The video below highlights the many benefits of our programming.

“I think this experience at Fieldstone Farm could change the whole trajectory of our students’ lives in a really positive way,” says Julie Meese, Intervention Specialist at Cleveland Heights/University Heights School District.

In addition to working with schools, we partner with many other organizations to offer customized programs. For example, a senior center may wish to work on memory skills and socializing for their participants. A hospice or cancer support organization may be interested in grief programming for children families. And a group with adults with multiple disabilities may want to work on life and social skills to help them in their everyday interactions. In each case, we collaborate with the organizations to develop relevant and meaningful programs with our therapy horses.

We partner with more than 60 schools and organizations throughout Northeast Ohio each year. We have been working with many of these groups for more than 10 years.
