Academic Enrichment - Students from local schools participate in our curricula based Academic Enrichment Program. This equine experience is tailored to fit the educational goals of each classroom. Following a classroom assessment by the Fieldstone Farm TRC staff, an appropriate curricula is chosen based on each students level of learning. The Academic Enrichment Program combines classroom learning, hands-on experience, and mounted programming to assist each student in reaching his or her highest level of academic performance. This segment of the program supplements the mounted program and teaches participants grooming, saddling, feeding and basic horsemanship in the context of related academic skills. Each equine lesson directly supports Ohio Academic Content Standards and sending school teachers use the Academic Enrichment program to support their classroom curricula.
Carriage Driving - This program enables clients who are unable to sit astride a horse the opportunity to learn to communicate with the horse through their voice and hands, thereby enabling them to participate in arena and cross-country driving.
Competition Opportunities - Fieldstone Farm TRC clients are invited to participate in local horse show events as well as two annual horse shows at Fieldstone Farm TRC. Participants enjoy the opportunity to compete and demonstrate their accomplishments for family and friends.
EquiClub - This program is designed to enhance participants' personal growth in a positive social atmosphere. Programs are un-mounted, equine-based and focused on providing social and experiential learning opportunities.
Equine Partnerships - A grounded social skills program that involves the horses in all activities!
Gaitway School - Fieldstone Farm TRC houses a high school classroom administered by the Geauga Educational Services Center (GESC) for students who thrive in an alternative school setting. Students receive a full academic program which meets the Ohio Department of Education standards. In conjunction, a vocational education program gives the participants an opportunity to learn job and life skills. Interaction with the horses in the barn enhances growth and development providing the motivating factor that has previously been lacking for these particular students.
Hippotherapy - Equine-facilitated therapy is available for clients with specific and prescribed therapy goals. Hippotherapy is conducted with a physician's prescription under the direction of a Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapist, a certified therapeutic riding instructor and an appropriate number of volunteers performing the functions of leader and side-walkers. The horse's movement is used by the therapist to facilitate activity and normalize tone specific to the client's goals.
Instructor Training Program - Fieldstone Farm TRC professionals offer a unique curriculum that prepares instructors to teach individuals with disabilities through a series of five hands-on workshops followed by a supervised, practicum teaching opportunity. The workshop series culminates in Instructor Certification approved by North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA).
Mounted Lessons - Horseback riding allows clients the opportunity to sit atop a horse and actively participate in riding. A rider learns to demonstrate self-control and earns a sense of accomplishment, self-confidence and self-esteem. Each riding lesson is designed to challenge, yet support success, for each client as they work to accomplish individually developed physical, psycho-social, cognitive and educational goals. Regardless of disability or degree of function, horses motivate each client to continually strive for improvements.
Summer Camp...An Equine Adventure - This summer camp experience is a fun-filled, enriching, horse-oriented experience focused on improving horsemanship skills. Campers enjoy outdoor nature and art activities, horse care, horseback riding and special theme days.
Specialty Area:
Autism - equestrians with autism become involved in a process that breaks down tasks into successive steps that are attainable. The consistency of the barn routines and the motivation of the horse activities allow the client to receive sensory input, learn to interpret this input and respond in a functional manner that is socially successful. Using techniques that have proven to be successful with children and adults with Autism, these students have the opportunity to mirror and practice social skills, social behaviors and communication skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Literacy Program - The Literacy Program is offered to school groups and is designed to complement the school district language arts curricula. This program seeks to increase proficiency in reading, writing and comprehension based on the Ohio Academic Content Standards. Clients are highly motivated by their unique and shared horsemanship experiences and become open to active learning, based on the fun they have while riding horseback.
People Touched By Cancer - Through a special partnership with The Gathering Place, Fieldstone Farm TRC offers programs for children and adults whose lives have been touched by cancer. This unique program focuses on the circle of life and activities that promote health and wellness enriched by the healing power of horses.
Veterans - equine activities for our veterans are designed especially to increase independence and support their legacy of service.
