Barn Safety Rules for Students

Listen to the instructors and follow directions.

Always wear a helmet when riding or when in the barn area working with horses.

Eating is only permitted in the classroom during your scheduled snack or lunchtime.

No gum chewing.

Always walk and use an indoor voice so you do not frighten the horses.

Stay where the horse can see you and where you can always see his eyes. Do not walk behind a horse.

Respect all persons, animals and property.

Always be with an instructor, volunteer or teacher when you enter the barn area.

Apples and carrots may be given to the horses only with permission and under the supervision of an instructor or volunteer.

All food treats must be put in the horses feed boxes. Please no hand feeding.

Always pet the horses on their neck or shoulder rather than on their face.

Please do not put your hands through the stall bars.

Appropriate clothing should always be worn, such as long pants, closed toed shoes or boots and clothing that is not too loose or baggy.

Polite language must be used at all times.

No open-toed shoes in the barn.
